7 top tips for a new job in 2022

1. Describe your perfect day
Take some time to write down the things that make you happy and the tasks you enjoy doing. This will help to narrow down the type of work you would like to do, will give recruiters an idea of your personality and will ensure you do not forget the important things in life – being happy and positive!

2. Learn new skills
Although it is important to consider the professional skills that a candidate has, we also look at the transferrable skills too. Certain roles, for example HGV and Forklift Drivers, require specific qualifications and skillsets. But there are many other roles where skills used in one role, could easily be transferred to another. We always spend a considerable amount of time getting to know our candidates, but if they show they are keen to learn new skills – it always puts a massive tick in our box.

3. Register with a recruitment agency
There are a number of agencies across East Anglia who can offer advice, guidance and talk to you about the next steps in your recruitment journey. At Contract Personnel, we are adding new jobs to our website every day and love speaking to candidates about the roles we can offer them – depending on their individual needs – using our extensive knowledge and expertise. Recruitment agencies also offer constructive feedback from interviews and job roles, put candidates forward to relevant roles and build up rapport to help and develop personal skills.

4. Cultivate your network
Tap into any connections you may already have, as they may be able to offer any tips and vacancies they come across. One of the most popular platforms in LinkedIn – you can follow industry experts, potential employers and learn more about the sector you are interested in.

5. Make your CV stand out
We always encourage candidates to summarise their USP (unique selling points) and skills/key accomplishments at the top of their CV. Demonstrate you are connected with the role and show insight and understanding. It is always beneficial to customise your CV for the role you are applying for.

6. Register for job alerts
A number of websites and tools such as LinkedIn, allow candidates to set up alerts for a particular job role, location, salary or experience level you are looking for. Be as specific as possible but remember all of the other tips as well – make sure to also network, reach out to family and friends and use agencies such as Contract Personnel!

7. Be prepared for a new interview process
Our final tip is to be prepared to attend interviews via video conference call. Due to the pandemic, a lot of employers are using tools such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams to carry out their interviews. If you receive a request of this nature make sure to test your connection and capability of laptop/tablet etc beforehand. Make sure you still dress smartly for the interview (as this will help with your mindset) and avoid any noise distractions where possible.
