Top tips for your NEW Driving Job in 2022!

Are you looking for a new HGV driving job in East Anglia? Or are you looking to upgrade your current HGV licence? Or maybe you are thinking of returning to driving? Here at Contract Personnel, we have a wide range of driving jobs available NOW!
Why not join up to 11,000 people launching new careers in the logistics sector?

Free courses for adults to train to be HGV drivers are under way across East Anglia – as part of a package of measures to ease driver shortages and support supply chains this Christmas and beyond.
Skills Bootcamps in HGV driving are free, flexible, intensive courses designed to train drivers to be road ready and gain their licence, offering people the chance to launch well-paid careers in the logistics sector.
The courses are available now and will also support existing drivers to refresh or upgrade their skills so they can to get back on the road. The Department for Education has announced it has boosted capacity for even more people to just over 11,000 places – backed by £34 million.

It comes after a sweeping review will look at ways to improve compulsory ongoing training for existing and returning HGV drivers.
Drivers currently need to undergo 5 days of periodic training every 5 years to ensure they remain fully qualified to drive heavy goods vehicles and buses professionally and up to date with road safety standards.
The review will look at how the process can be updated to reduce the burden on drivers – both returning and new – and ensure it doesn’t act as a barrier to working in the sector.
Much has been made in the past year of the shortage of HGV drivers and other logistics workers. But after a challenging 12 months for the sector, a new report published by Logistics UK earlier this month shows there are grounds for cautious optimism that the situation will improve.

To ensure more people can take their test sooner, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is also making capacity available for 500 more HGV driving tests a week, equivalent to up to 26,000 more per year.

At Contract Personnel, we have come up with some top tips when planning or carrying out a driving role:
1. Expect the unexpected
2. Plan your journey
3. Know your vehicle – height, length, restrictions
4. Make sure you carry out vehicle checks before setting off
5. Make sure your load is secure

New to HGV driving
If you’ve got a full car licence or medium-sized vehicle licence (Category C1), these Skills Bootcamps will help you qualify to drive either:
• a rigid HGV (Category C) - these are used for lots of commercial deliveries throughout the UK, some have loading access at the rear and sides as well as electronic tail lifts which makes them easier to load and unload
• an articulated lorry (Category C+E) - these have 2 parts (the cab and the trailer the cab is pulling) and are mainly used in long-distance haulage or for the movement of large volumes of items as well as bulky or heavy goods
