HGV Driving Jobs in Norfolk

HGV Driving Jobs in Norfolk

If you are looking for a driving job in Norfolk, there are a number of factors to bear in mind.  As a leading driving recruitment agency supplying qualified experienced drivers to a wide range of local, national and international businesses at short notice, Contract Personnel has the following advice for you:

What does HGV Driving work involve?
An HGV driver’s main responsibility is to transport goods, raw materials, manufactured parts or finished products, between suppliers and their customers.  Generally starting and finishing in Norfolk, the driving jobs may be for a trunk run to Birmingham, refrigerated delivery to Spalding or shunting between client sites in and around East Anglia.  Alongside the physical driving the driver may also be called upon to assist in loading and unloading the goods.

What are the hours of an HGV Driver?

An HGV driver will generally work around 42 hours per week and the majority of these hours will be spent on the road whatever the weather conditions.  There are strict regulations on the numbers of hours any driver can undertake before stopping for a break.

Starting times vary considerably from early mornings to late nights and some jobs may involve nights away, although this will be specified at the start of the assignment.  Depending on the client overtime may be paid.

Qualities of a Commercial HGV Driver

It goes without saying a commercial driver needs to enjoy driving, be happy working alone and able to concentrate for long periods. Alongside excellent driving skills a commercial driver also needs a good understanding of the relevant safety and driving regulations.

Contract Personnel’s drivers must be presentably dressed for work wearing safety boots and a high visibility jacket, together with a professional and polite manner particularly when dealing with customers.

To join Contract Personnel’s team of HGV drivers working regularly on driving jobs in Norfolk you will need:

  • Previous commercial driving experience
  • A valid licence (both card and counterpart) with entitlement to drive Category C+E, Category C or 7.5 tonne vehicles*
  • From 9th September 2014 Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK
  • Digital tachograph card (if held)
  • Five years work history
  • Two character references
  • Good geographical knowledge

We also get assignments for drivers that hold the following additional licences. Drivers who hold these licences will be able to work for a wider range of assignments.

  • ADR (Advisory dangers Goods by Road)
  • Transport of Live Birds – training can be provided if interested
  • HIAB – (licence to operate Hook and / or Grab lorry mounted crane)
